Stars I Shall Find

It’s really easy to love this song composed by Victor Johnson. The melody is beautifully arranged to such a lovely poem. Victor is a living composer out of Dallas, Texas. He' has composed and arranged over 350 choral works and published his first piece while only a Sophomore in High School. Victor is also an accomplished organist (like someone else we know, our esteemed Mr. Fedak) and has served as a church organist for about 15 years.

Along with this beautiful melody comes such beautiful words. The poem for this piece is aptly called “There Will be Rest” by Sara Teasdale. The poem talks about longing to find peace while gazing upon the stars. Sara was an American Poet from St. Louis, Missouri, who was often praised for her simplicity in the lyrics that often brought a quiet intensity. She published several poetry books in her lifetime and received awards including the Poetry Society of America Prize and the Columbia Poetry Prize which would later become the Pulitzer Prize. One of the more notable things that was said about her poetry was that it was musical. One review called one of her books, “a little volume of joyous and unstudied song”, while a New York Times Book Review contributor said that, “Miss Teasdale is first, last, and always a singer.” What perfect words for poetry that would later be put to a beautiful choral piece.
