Love Never Leaves

As we look over this piece, those of us singing the song see that it was commissioned by Tommie Trinh, in memory of his mother, Phuong Xuan Trinh. Marina Shimer’s words and Jacob Narverud did a wonderful job capturing the memory of a loved one gone, but never truly gone. The song has been described as “Heartfelt and memorable, this beautiful original work about remembering a loved one is both hopeful and poignant. Written in a popular song style, the lyrical melody begins in unison and eventually blossoms into full harmony as the wistful music-box-like piano accompaniment gradually builds into a rhythmic heartbeat underneath the choir.”

Jacob Narverud is an American composer native to Kansas who is a passionate choral conductor as well. He is the founding artistic director of the Tallgrass Chamber Choir and the Composer in Residence for the Boston Gay Men’s Chorus. He’s composed a rich catalog of music styles from Broadway and popular music, to arrangements of classical, Baroque, and Renaissance works. His compositions have been performed worldwide. In addition to composing, Jacob is also a vocalist who has performed with the Kansas City Chorale and the Kansas City Symphony as a back-up singer for Ben Folds. He has a YouTube channel where you can check out some of his choral works. https://www.youtube.com/channel/UCE1Iplt9b3lHPZGo3PJTstg
