How HMC Started

Our history

The group was born when 25 singers got together in the spring of 2015 to plan a concert tour of Belgium, Luxembourg and The Netherlands. Many had never traveled with a choral group before, so it was quite a leap of faith. The July, 2015 tour went swimmingly and a special chemistry developed in the group. As a result, many asked our director, Susan Hermance Fedak, to keep the group going!

After much cajoling and lots of support, the decision was made to go forth, another leap of faith. The original 25 tour members were encouraged to invite other singers to join in, welcoming others to this very special adventure in community choral singing. The hope was that 40 would come for our inaugural rehearsal in September 2015. When, after the first three rehearsals, 72 singers were part of the group, we were all ecstatic!

Our inaugural concert, in November, 2015, entitled “Wrapped in Song, the Joy of Music” was offered as a gift to the greater Hudson-Mohawk area community. Our hope is that you, whether by attending our concerts or joining us in making music, will enjoy this journey as much as we are enjoying ourselves!

and on which it is impossible to be silent.”

What We've Achieved

  • Established ourselves as a growing non-for-profit with singers from 6 counties.

  • Formed a scholarship fund for young singers

  • Received a grant for a select choir OnChor! whose primary purpose is to go out to under-served institutions and places where residents can't get out to hear music.
